Paying For China's Growing Trade: How China's trade growth broadens the appeal of the renminbi?
Fresh customs data shows, China's foreign trade kept growing with diverse trading partners last year. Trade with economies involved in the Belt and Road Initiative accounted for 46.6 percent of China's total foreign trade. Trade with the EU and US both took up more than 10%.

WTO slashes 2023 global trade growth forecast to 1%
The World Trade Organization has warned of a sharp decline in trade growth in 2023. It has forecast global trade to grow by just 1%, from a previous estimate of 3.4%. Singapore expects trade growth of 0% to -2% for 2023
Singapore's trade is expected to see no growth or even dip in 2023, as it comes off a high base this year. Easing demand for electronics trade and exports, as well as lower oil prices in the coming year are also likely to weigh on trade. Enterprise Singapore expects growth to come in flat at best, or shrink 2% for total merchandise trade and non-oil domestic exports. Meanwhile, Singapore has upgraded its 2022 full-year trade forecasts during its third quarter review. That's on the back of better-than-expected performance driven by oil and electronics trade.

China is expected to remain the world's largest trading nation for the 7th consecutive year. That has laid a foundation for the growth in cross-border settlement services.
Part of that growth has come from the change in the foreign trade business. In order to keep up with the increasing pace of trade, it has become a major task for banks and payment service providers to develop a safer online pass.
The payment service provider has served more than 300,000 Chinese exporters. There are now around 30 payment service providers here qualified for cross-border settlement. Even e-commerce platforms now offer the settlement service on their own. They serve as a bridge between the banks, government departments and the companies.
Regulators and financial institutions have been working hard to make things even simpler for the regular trustworthy traders.
The Bank of Communications now supports 23 currencies exchange for spot settlement. 4 were added to that list in just the past 6 months.
Fresh data from the central bank showed, renminbi cross-border settlement of trade in goods reached 10.69 trillion yuan last year. That was more than a quarter of the total foreign trade value of trade in goods for the year.
